What is “social networking”?

June 2nd, 2008

“A social network is a social structure made of individuals or organizations that are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as values, visions, idea, friends, kinship, dislike or trade.  The resulting structures are often very complex.”

So why do we care?  Social networking is now one of the top modes of communication in the world.  It immediately connects individuals or organizations with similarities and allows for the development of relationships at a much faster pace then in the past.  Do you believe the meetings industry requires different outlets for social networking?  What value do you believe social networking could bring to your career?  What aspect of social networking are you currently involved?
